Reformation Theology and Election

"The old truth that Calvin preached,
that Augustine preached, that Paul preached,
is the truth that I must preach today,
or else be false to my conscience and my God.
I cannot shape the truth; I know of no such
thing as paring off the rough edges of a doctrine.
John Knox's gospel is my gospel.
That which thundered through Scotland
must thunder through England again."

Charles Spurgeon

Christianity is Fleeing The West

Here's a sobering thought to ponder as American churches gather to celebrate God's blessing upon our country. Could it be that God's favor is on it's way out of our country? Not just our land, but also that of the West in general. David Wells, who authored the excellent book No Place For Truth makes the case that it is already happening. Rome didn't fall overnight, and it is likewise not necessarily the case that God's light will stop shining here in an abrupt or cataclysmic way. Let's talk about that inside of an even greater framework, relating to how and whether God chooses to give Gospel-favor to some nations over others. ... [Read More!]

No Middleground in This Debate, It Does Divide    Link

From The Aomin Mailbag: "I have read many arguments on both sides [of the Calvinism/Arminianism debate] and now hold a 'moderate' view. I believe that both extremes have some aspect that are and others that are incorrect. My point in writing this is to ask if you think that this is an issue that the church should be so divided over. We spend so much time debating fellow believers on these issues when we could spend that time refuting cultist. I do agree that this is a doctrine that we should have a position on and be able to prove in light of scripture, but I hate the fact the those who love Jesus are spending so muct time arguing over differences when we should cling to our common love for Christ and the lost. Please tell me if and why you find this to be a topic that the church should be divided over." ... [Read Link]

The Enemy Doesn't Grow Weary   William Gurnall

The persistence of the enemy requires perseverance. The devil never retreats or declares a truce. If an enemy repeatedly assaults a city and those within it cease to resist, you know who will win. The prophet who was sent to Bethel did his errand well and withstood Jeroboam's temptation. But on his way home he was drawn aside by the old prophet and at last slain by a lion (1 Kings 13). Thus many flee from one temptation, only to be vanquished by another. Many precious servants of God, not making such vigorous resistance in their last days as in their first, have fallen miserably, as we see in Solomon, Asa, and others. ... [Read More!]

Henry Frueh: "Reformed Theology is an Idol That is Worshipped" - Is That True?

Well, Henry (Rick Frueh) is back at it again with a whole new line of misrepresentation about Reformed believers. You may remember my previous post in which I addressed Henry Frueh's claims of "blasphemy". In this post I'll also try to clear up what happened in an email conversation between Henry and I several months ago, which he now seems to be recollecting with an all new spin. We'll take a look at those emails, while examining Henry's latest charges against Reformed Christians. ... [Read More!]

The Depths of Sin: Does Anyone Still Preach This?   William Gurnall

Not only is man in arms against God, but God is against wicked man also. "God is angry with the wicked every day - He hath bent his bow and made it ready. He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death" (Psalm 7:11-13). God has set up His royal standard in defiance of all the sons and daughters of Adam, who are traitors to His crown. And He has taken the field as with fire and sword against everyone who rebels against His Word. God gives sufficient testimony of His wrath by revealing how He judges sinners--they are crushed to death by his righteous foot, a fate suited to their viperous master in sin. ...
