"How many souls have been led to vain confidence by a man-made,
evangelistic formula? How many are sent home from
evangelistic services with calm, who should have gone away grieved
and disturbed as the rich young ruler who approached Jesus?
How many unsaved children have been given assurance
by the teachers of Bible classes, so that they have
ceased to seek God for salvation?" --Walter Chantry

The Gospel Offends Because it is Intolerant of Sin
There are a great many churches today where unbelievers remain unconverted, attending weekly, and never finding anything offensive about the message that's preached. Compare that to these observations from Charles Spurgeon's sermon "Unbelievers stumbling; Believers rejoicing". ... [Read More!]

Do They 'Really' Need The Gospel? - Part 3
There has been a lot of controversy as of late, about the End of The Spear missionary movie in theaters. Al Mohler was a guest on Larry King's show recently, along with Chad Allen - the homosexual activist that played the lead role in the movie. My curiosity grew about Chad Allen's church, after he mentioned to Larry King that they have a "different interpretation" of the scriptures related to homosexuality. What I found on his church's website, was an absolutely chilling attack on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. An attack that strips the Gospel of meaning, and negates any need for evangelism and missions. ... [Read More!]

Do They 'Really' Need The Gospel? - Part 2
A friend of mine is in leadership at a mega-church in Texas. Twenty years ago, we were likeminded and attending the same church, but have since gone in different doctrinal directions. He surprised me a year ago, during a conversation that we had about whether people in the remote areas of the world can be saved if the Gospel is not available. His answer to this was: "God might save them in the same way that He saved Abraham". But doesn't that fly in the face of scripture, which says that we must preach the Gospel so others might believe?... [Read More!]

Do They 'Really' Need The Gospel? - Part 1
Link
In an interview with Robert Schuller, Billy Graham declared: "I think that everybody that loves or knows Christ, whether they are conscious of it or not, they are members of the body of Christ. . . . [God] is calling people out of the world for his name, whether they come from the Muslim world, or the Buddhist world or the non-believing world, they are members of the Body of Christ because they have been called by God. They may not know the name of Jesus but they know in their hearts that they need something they do not have, and they turn to the only light they have, and I think that they are saved and they are going to be with us in heaven."... Did The Apostles Use 'God Loves You' Evangelism?
What was the emphasis in the evangelistic preaching of the Apostles as recorded in the book of Acts? Does the record of Acts support the notion that the central focus of Christianity is one's love-relationship with God and personal life enhancement? Or did these disciples of Christ focus on something else?... [Read More!]

Are You Evangelizing For All The Wrong Reasons?
We hear much today of what man does and can do and ought to do. But we by no means hear so much of what God is doing and has purposed to do. Man's role stands very prominently in view. God's arm and power are hidden. It seems almost as if man would thrust God aside, take the reins of control out of His hands and be to himself a god. ... [Read More!]

Spurgeon On Conversions: Be Careful Counting "Unhatched Chickens"
A mega-church pastor recently defended his obsession with counting converts: "So we celebrate the numbers (people). We obsess about the numbers (people). We lay awake at night thinking about how we can reach more numbers (people). We cry when one of our number-friends repents and comes to Christ. We weep when, in a great 21st century moment of revival, we see 400+ numbers (sinners) make a decision to leave their lives of sin and follow Christ."... [Read More!]

Bait And Switch "Festival Evangelism"
Luis Palau calls his brand of revivalism "festival evangelism", the secular news calls it "stealth evangelism", another blog writer calls it "Six Flags Over Jesus". Call it what you will, it's going on this weekend in our nation's capital. But will this be a God-honoring form of evangelism, or will it instead be a $3.4 million dollar "bait and switch" event? ... Old Evangelism Started With 'Bad News' First
"It's got to be at least 75 percent law and judgment, and 25 percent grace and forgiveness". Those are the words of John MacArthur, echoing the "old truth" way to present the Gospel message. MacArthur's reasoning goes like this: "God's grace cannot be faithfully preached to unbelievers until the Law is preached and man's corrupt nature is exposed. It is impossible for a person to fully realize his need for God's grace until he sees how terribly he has failed the standards of God's Law".
But more and more today, Gospel presentations are based on a "half truth" message that emphasizes only the good news, with little or no mention of any bad news. And as the saying goes: A half truth, presented as though it were the whole truth, is an untruth. ... [Read More!]
