Taking a Few Days Off - See You Next Week
Some of our regular Old Truth readers, have been sending me emails this week such as this one from Joan: "Hello, I've noticed that no new subjects have been posted in a few days. I hope you are doing ok health-wise and otherwise. I have you in my prayers." Thank you Joan and everyone else who has expressed concern. Rest assured, it is in my plans to be back shortly (a week from today as a matter of fact) on June 10th. Here's a short post to let you know what's behind my absence this week. You guessed it Joan, the reason is health related. As many of you know, I have had four bone fractures in the past twelve month which relate to a bone disorder I was born with. I've been having some difficulties sleeping due to some pain from past fractures, and late last week I ended up falling or tripping over something which sent (a very sleep-deprived) me crashing into the bathtub. When I managed to stand up, I had the shower curtain draped over me which looked like a cheap attempt at a ghost costume. I'm thankful to God that the injury was not severe enough to where I felt like X-rays were in order to determine what (if anything) is broken, other than the shower curtain.
Over the past three months I've also developed a suspicious area under my largest toenail on my left foot. While this is likely nothing of concern, it has three different doctors wanting to take the cautious route and have the entire toenail removed, followed by a biopsy for Melanoma Cancer. It's in a hard to get at spot, so a plastic surgeon is going to put me into a twilight sleep before he removes it, which will happen on June 2nd. (Hey, at least I'll get some sleep while I'm under, right? :-) That's a bit of what's been going on with me physically. After I return next week (Lord willing) Old Truth will have a post from Chad for anyone who is wondering about "Church Membership" and whether it's even biblical.
Did you notice that Frank Turk has a collection of posts coming up related to Tim Stevens' book "Pop Goes The Church". I have not read anything on this topic that Frank has written yet, but I went ahead and bought my own USED copy of the book which I will utilize for my own review. I say "used" because I didn't want the online sales stats to go up by buying a new copy of this very troubling book promoting pop-culture in the church. Frank's review, I'm sure will be good, but if history over the past couple of years suggests anything, it may be that mine will probably be a bit less accepting and less open-minded in some areas. I do recommend that you read Frank's entire review over at TeamPyro; I certainly will be.
By the way, you can already read what Tim Stevens' commenters have had to say about Frank even before Frank's review went online. There was similar treatment to "those people" over at ALittleLeaven's blog when they tried to review a TV interview on the book. On that page Tim says "I've never heard of their blog, but I'm guessing it is in the same vein as Ingrid's site (Ingrid had also given Tim's book negative feedback." And finally, after I wrote a short excerpt review from Tim's blog about his book, you can see some of the response it produced. I hope that in response to Frank's post, and my future posts, Tim and his commenters will attempt to actually defend the book based on scripture rather than on emotions. We saw so little of that in the responses that were given at the links above.
Anyway, thank you - for all of you who are praying for me, related to my ongoing medical challenges. I'd also like to thank Chad for the tremendous help that he has given me. My thanks also go out to Jenney and Pamskee who are both trustworthy and helpful.
