Here's an interesting conversation that ensued when a staunch Roman Catholic visited Old Truth. It's an interesting examination of two different versions of church history concerning the Reformation and the views of Augustine on predestination. The one doing the challenging on this page goes by the nickname of Pope Felix, but someone suggested that this may be Jimmy Akin undercover:-) Whoever he is, you have to give him credit for showing the courage to enter this protestant hornet's nest with no real support from anyone else.
This conversation began on this page, but since it diverged somewhat from the original topic, I decided to move it here. You'll also find additional debate with Pope Felix, on this Catholic discussion page on Old Truth. I don't hold out much hope of convincing anyone in this discussion, since we are arguing from two different sources of belief. One side looks to scripture, while the other side looks to scripture plus the traditions of their church. But scripture always accomplishes what the Holy Spirit intends, and with that there's always a reason for optimism. If nothing else, this page is a good examination of the baffling existence of two different accounts of a number of things in church history. How and why does that happen? Maybe we'll get some answers, in the discussion below.
