Thus says the Lord: "Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.
But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'" --Jeremiah 6:16

Prayer Request - UPDATE - (THANK YOU)!

This was originally intended as a temporary post that was going to stay up for a day, but I've decided to keep it around permanently. First of all, it reveals a side of Christianity that you would not hear talked about in many pulpits today, namely - that Christianity is not always "God has a wonderful plan for your life". On the contrary, sometimes life is hard for Christians, and as a previous post on John Bunyan talked about - many of today's happy-clappy churches (including the one I used to attend) offer very little for those who suffer (as we all eventually do). But secondly, I'm keeping this post around because of it's comments. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your well-wishes and especially your prayers. Your comments meant so much to me and recharged my batteries for many months more blogging.

ORIGINAL POST FROM 1/12/08:

As some of you know, I have a genetic bone disorder that causes me to fracture easily. Last week I fractured yet another rib (my rib cage is really a mess on the xrays). Unfortunately, last night I did something to it which further injured it, and I am feeling the effects going even up my spine (which has also recently been fractured). I don't think I would do well with a ride to the hospital at this point, and they usually just send me home with pain meds for this kind of thing anyway. So I will tough it out at home.

I'm in some kind of pain pretty much all of the time, so I try not to talk about it on my blog, but this time around - considering the severity, I'm going to ask for your prayers. Right now, just normal body functions, including sleep, coughing, deep breaths, and a variety of other things, are off the charts - as far as pain goes. So I covet your prayers to get through the next 24 hours or so. Thanks very much in advance.

UPDATE 1/14/08: I'm still working on very little sleep, but am feeling a bit better. I've discovered some ways to position myself in a chair that minimizes the pain as long as I remain still. Your ongoing prayers are appreciated, as I'll be seeing some other doctors to discuss some additional long term bone strengthening medications. Going through tough circumstances like this is always a reminder of how much I need God in this area and in every part of my life.

I'd also like to say thank you to everyone at my church who interceded for me at our weekly prayer meeting last night. Also so many offers to come over to my house and help my family with anything that might be needed. It says a lot about our excellent church here in Milwaukee. In so many ways, I feel sorry for any professing Christians who do not think it's important to regularly attend a church and commit themselves to like-minded believers through church membership.
