Often we hear people say that they could not possibly be happy in heaven knowing that friends and family are in hell. So maybe we won't know, somehow. Or, maybe we won't remember them. Or perhaps we'll be so happy that we will only occasionally remember them? Today and tomorrow I'll be running a two part series on things that might surprise you about hell. In this post, we'll examine the question of loved ones. Brace yourself however, this one is going to be disturbing for some people; perhaps you will even fight what you are about to hear. In this short 2 minute audio clip, RC Sproul relays the story of the day in seminary when his teacher - John Gerstner answered this particular question. Gerstner went so far as to use the example of someone's own mother being in hell. RC Sproul found the answer to be so outrageous, that he could hardly believe Gerstner said it. This clip comes from the Eternal Punishment teaching in the series entitled Foundations: An Overview of Systematic Theology.
