Video Series Based on Thomas Vincent's Book
I continue to push the Word Pictures videos from CrossTV because they've made such a big impact on my life over the past several years. Though the videos are professionally and thoroughly done, CrossTV's website isn't. Because of that, and in an effort to give back to CrossTV, I'm doing my best to provide additional web information for some of their most important video sets. One that I've watched several times, and can highly recommend is The True Christian's Love for the Unseen Christ
In the lean description for these excellent videos on CrossTV's website, the Unseen Christ series is described by these couple of sentences: "It is a blessing that is indescribable to be given the ability to "see" the "UNseen" Christ with the "eyes" of your soul. It is a rich treasure beyond imagination. To know, fellowship with, experience...and LOVE...Jesus Christ brings unspeakable joy, and indescribable, eternal blessings! And...in this series...the viewer is told how such love is attained." Wow! There's so much more that needs to be said than that. The video series is based on the 17th century Puritan book by the same name, written by Thomas Vincent. It has been reprinted and is still available today, now forwarded by John MacArthur. The book (and subsequently the videos) expound 1 Peter 1:8, "Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory". This 24 part video series teaches you what your role is, in obtaining a love for Christ, first from the standpoint of an unbeliever, but primarily for true Christians who have a weak love for Christ (which is all of us really). All of the means of grace are emphasized including bible reading, scripture meditation, and prayer. In fact, the prayer section of this series is so strong, that CrossTV has since made it available as a stand-alone product called The Power and Privilege of Prayer - a (less expensive) 6 part video series. All of these videos draw heavily from the deeper spiritual well of the Puritans, with extended quotes and directions from men like John Bunyan. Be forewarned, this is not another teaching on the "Jabez Prayer"; these videos are nothing like the modern material that you'll find in Christian bookstores on this topic. I've made some sample clips (audio only) available online, in an effort to help you get a sense of what these videos are all about. Perhaps the most powerful of these MP3 audio clips is "Test Your Love For Christ". After listening to it, Ingrid from Slice of Laodicea commented: "A more convicting half an hour you could not spend than to listen to this".
